Qualifications and Experience
I have been working with people at times of crisis in their lives for over forty years and more than ever believe in the benefit of having a safe space to find out more about what drives us to make decisions that harm ourselves and others. Feedback from those I have worked with over the years would suggest they find me warm and accepting allowing them to explore their deepest fears, shame and guilt without being judged
My specialism is Relationship Therapy and I am qualified at Post Graduate Level. Since qualifying I have completed Supervision Training, a basic CBT course and a Primary Certificate in Stress Management and Level 1 Narrative Therapy. I am currently working towards a qualification in Group Analysis
Narrative Therapy remains a key interest as this recognises the importance of stories in our lives, those we tell ourselves and are told by other about us. It is of value in allowing us to 'thicken' our stories to recognise other parts of ourself and our capacity to make positive changes to our lives even when we feel burdened and paralysed by our situation.
In addition to courses with formal qualifications attached I have undertaken a wide range of CPD courses designed to ensure my practice is constantly enhanced and refreshed. This includes Working with Eating Disorders, those who Self Harm or are at Risk of Suicide and how to use Creative Interventions in Counselling
I am a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Registered Member and my practice is underpinned by their Code of Ethics.
My counselling has been underpinned by year's of experience as a qualified nurse, children's nurse and social worker.
As someone who has worked with people at times of crisis in their lives for over four decades I am still passionate about the importance of hearing people's unique stories and working alongside individuals to find a way of more fully understanding and responding to the challenges inherent in being human.
Having been married to the same man for over 40 years I am aware of the 'ups and downs' which assail any long term relationship and the importance of constantly refreshing the relationship as we move through different phases of our lives. Currently I divide my time between counselling, supervision and consultancy alongside being a 'hands on' Granny
